Southeast Bowling Association Tourney cancelled

May 3, 2020

Good Evening,

I hope this email finds everyone well. I have been in constant contact will Joe Spain in Atlanta regarding this year's tournament. After speaking with him last week, we are recommending that we cancel this year's tournament in Atlanta. This also means cancelling the meeting and Hall of Fame Luncheon. The reason we waited so late is because we were wishfully hoping that everything would return to normal. As you know, it has not. While the bowling centers are open in Georgia, there are still restrictions on the number of people in the building at any one time. This would make it nearly impossible to hold a tournament, especially at shift change.

Joe has informed his local board of directors, and they all agree this is the best thing to do. After speaking with Joe today, he had less than 200 teams and about 20-25% of them were already asking for refunds.

In case you did not know, the Southern Bowling Congress cancelled their tournament this year after bowling one weekend and has also cancelled next year’s tournament in Pensacola, Fla. I do not think we need to jump to a decision on next year’s tournament in Greenville just yet, but I thought you ought to know.

I am currently working with the hotel about cancelling the meeting and luncheon and hoping we do not incur any expense there. If you have made hotel reservations, please cancel them ASAP.

If you have any comments or concerns about the decision, please let me and Gary Breazeale know.

I hope everyone stays safe, and I hope we can meet in Myrtle Beach in November.

Thanks!
