PEGGY TINNEY

Peggy Tinney first became involved in bowling one afternoon in 1967. Through Peggy first hesitated becoming involved in the organizational aspect of bowling, 20 years later she was elected to the Women's International Bowling Congress board of directors.

Peggy began her meritorious service to bowling when she was elected to the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association board of directors in 1970. She served in that capacity until appointed association treasurer in 1973. While treasurer from 1973 to 1981, Peggy actually wore two hats. In 1974, Peggy's aspirations reached a little further into the organizational aspect of bowling when she was appointed to the board of directors of the Virginia State Women's Bowling Association (VSWBA).

As a member of the VSWBA board, Peggy was editor of the Virginia State newsletter from 1975 to 1977. In 1976, she received the National Women Bowling Writers 2nd Place Honors as editor for state publications. And in 1978, Peggy received the WDCAWBA President's Award.

In 1977, Peggy was elected to her current position as VSWBA secretary, where one of her main responsibilities is chairman of the annual Virginia State Tournament.

As secretary, Peggy was directly responsible for computerizing the tournament and is currently working on computerizing the Virginia State awards program. Peggy was also the one who instituted the presentation of 200 game awards for scratch 200 games bowled at the state tournament.

Besides her organizational abilities, Peggy is also a talented artist, having designed the towels and ways and means pins sold each year to Virginia State tournament participants. She also designed the Virginia State 600 Club pin.

Peggy has also served as treasurer of the WDCAWBA 600 Club, is a member of the National Women Bowling Writers, and is a charter member of the Virginia Bowling Queens.

Once again, Peggy wasn't happy wearing just one hat: This past April, she was elected to the WIBC Board of Directors.

Peggy is also a talented bowler. Her high average is 182, high game is 286, and high series is 698. In addition, she has qualified to represent the WDCAWBA in the 1987 Team USA state regionals.

For her continued dedicated service to our sport, an honored position is reserved for Peggy Tinney in the Washington, D.C. Area Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
