RALPH HAYWARD


Ralph was born in Kingston, Pa., on April 13, 1930. He attended Kingston High School, Oklahoma University, and served in the United States Air Force for 20 years as a meteorologist. Ralph and his wife, Kiyoko, have four children.

While serving in the Air Force, Ralph was active as a bowler and as a leader in the military bowling element of our bowling family. He served as a director of the Japan Interservice Bowling Association for four years and as a vice president of the Blytheville AFB Bowling Association for two years.

Ralph was elected to the board of directors of the NCABA in 1972 and was elected president in 1980. During that time, he was instrumental in the organization and operation of our association. During his term as president, the NCABA hosted the Virginia State Tournament, the Southeastern Bowling Conference Tournament, the BOWL Magazine Tournament, as well as our association tournament. Ralph's goal as president was to establish a strong campaign for good, legal lane conditions. As immediate past president he was chairman of a very successful BVL Fund Drive. As a past president, he is still very much involved in our association by serving on various committees, serving as a lane director, and by attending board meetings, contributing his ideas and experience.

Among Ralph's achievements are Japan Interservice B.A. All Events Champion, Handicap and Scratch Doubles Champion and Team Champion... Blytheville City Association High Series Award (730)...Twice ranked in the Top 10 of the NCABA ... Bowled in 15 ABC National Tournaments ... 17 NCABA Association Tournaments ... High game of 288 & Series of 743... Has served in every league officer capacity and when he was secretary of the Virginia Masters league, he received the NCABA Outstanding Secretary Award.

Ralph's dedication to bowling and the NCABA has been an inspiration to others now serving on our board of directors.
