PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE / Darron Mayes

March / April 2020

New season, new challenges

To the NCAUSBCA Family:

Allow me to introduce myself: I’m Darron Mayes. Due to the untimely passing of Michael Tinsley in July, I, as first vice president at the time, took over as acting president until I was officially approved by the board of directors as president of this association.

I’ve been bowling all of my life and truly love the sport. I started out with my mother taking a bunch of family and friends bowling on weekends. I then joined a youth league at Bolling Air Force Base—and won first place my first year! I later joined the bowling team at Prince George’s Community College and have continued with adult league and tournament bowling. I’ve held multiple league positions, including sergeant-at-arms, treasurer, and secretary.

Welcome to the 2020-2021 season. Bowling as we once knew it, due to COVID-19, possibly will never be the same. A sport that welcomed camaraderie, closeness, and “high fiving,” has now evolved into maintaining a six-foot distance, while masked up and sanitized.

Safety being paramount, we must work together to follow the guidelines and muddle our way through this new era of bowling. As we march forward into the unknown, please be assured that the officers, directors, and volunteers of your association are at your disposal. We will be glad to assist you in any way we can and look forward to working with all of you.
