December 11, 2001 — Mike Remaklus of Florissant, Mo., and Heather Hoffman of West Lawn, Pa., emerged as divisional champions of the Youth Scratch Shoot-Out Sunday at Bowl America Duke.
Remaklus, who averaged 232.5 for six qualifying and four match games, edged Adam Subach of Wilmington, Del., 246-242 in the championship contest of the Boys' Division to win a $1,600 scholarship.
Meanwhile, in the Girls' Division, Hoffman, who averaged 214.2 during qualifying and match play, topped top seed Joy Esterson of Annapolis 202-185 to win an $800 scholarship.
Several local players qualified for match play, including Supachai Papee of Alexandria, Mike Herman of Woodbridge, Rob Rowe of Woodbridge, Shaun Minick of the District, Arlea Bowman of Sterling, Latise Parker of Laurel, and Erin Gore of Woodbridge.
Prior to the start of the tournament, the first 10 members of the Youth Scratch Shoot-Out Hall of Fame were announced:
Tournament Director Dana Gore reported that the $6,084 in scholarship money awarded at this event pushed the yearly total to $27,121 and the all-time total to $77,226.
