Nelson wins 600 Club Winter Singles Tournament

Mike Nelson of Oakton bowled a three-game series of 678 to win the Vir-Mar District 600 Club Winter Singles Tournament March 1 at AMF Waldorf. Mark Potter of Temple Hills finished second with a 672 series, and K C White II of Upper Marlboro placed third with 656. Nelson and Supachai Papee of Alexandria tied for the high game award with a 244 game.

Bowlers with the top five series qualified for the Tournament of Champions, which will be held May 11. Charles Davis of Waldorf finished fourth with a 643 series, and Derek McNeil of the District was fifth with 626, but he previously qualified, so sixth-place finisher Chris Garvey of Vienna earned the last qualifying spot with a 624 series.

The next 600 Club Tournament will be a doubles event March 23 at Bowl America Bull Run.
